Holy Cross School is an independent, co-educational Catholic school offering classes from Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) to Grade 8, with an enrollment of approximately 400 students.
Established in 1925, Holy Cross School has been providing a Catholic education to students for over 85 years. Over more than eight decades, Holy Cross School has developed a tradition of excellence, which, in turn, has fostered the spiritual and academic growth of its students. From the inception of the parish, the importance of Christian education was paramount and parishioners were dedicated in their support of their children's education.
Students at Holy Cross School are educated according to the standards outlined by Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Education. This schooling is enriched through faith formation experiences, as well as participation in a variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, such as involvement in House opportunities and sports teams.
Holy Cross School is part of a broader community that includes Holy Cross Parish and St. Boniface Diocesan High School, where many students from Holy Cross go on to attend high school.
The full-sized and licensed Holy Cross Gym is used for socials, sporting events and cultural activities such as Folklorama, where two pavilions are held each summer.
Holy Cross School conducts several programs that involve community outreach. These programs not only help those in need, but they also give students the experience of helping others.
One ongoing program is the collection of pop can tabs for the purpose of purchasing an electronic wheelchair for a child in need. Each year, nearly 200 businesses and schools collect and donate pop tabs, which are dropped off at Holy Cross School, where they are processed and stored. Annually, at the end of May, a presentation of the wheelchair is made to the recipient and their family.
Other programs that the school is involved in are coordinated by Holy Cross Parish. Throughout the school year, students from Holy Cross School hold fundraising activities, collect food, money and or clothing for those in need and at Christmas time, help in the collection of items that are used to prepare Christmas hampers for those in need in the parish community.
