Several extra-curricular activities are offered at Holy Cross School. Students are encouraged to join these various activities in order to become more involved in the life of the school, outside of the classroom.
Intramural Sports are offered during lunch recess. Students have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports, ranging from basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, badminton and other selected activities.
Students are also encouraged to join a team, such as volleyball, basketball or track and field. Being on a team promotes co-operation and leadership skills for students, as well as allows students to build self-confidence, as well as improve their skills in that particular activity.
There are also opportunities for students to become involved outside of sport-oriented activities. Each year, Holy Cross School produces an exceptional yearbook that records the activities that students have participated in during the academic year. Students take photos, create write-ups about several events and help to create the style of the year’s book before it is printed by the end of June.
As part of the School Safety Patrol Program conducted by the Winnipeg Police Department, students in Grades 5 and 6 have an opportunity to serve their school community by acting as crossing guards at intersections near the school from 8:15 a.m. to 8:25 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. daily. Students wishing to be patrols must first fill out an application form (parent signature required). The staff member in charge of patrols will then take responsibility for their training and supervision. All students are expected to obey the directions of the crossing guards.
Leadership roles come in the form of being a House leader. Grade 8 students are responsible for organizing House events and the hard work that goes into developing these events. Students present their ideas to the entire school as well as to their respective Houses in the form of activities that are performed school-wide on a monthly basis.
