Our school has embarked on a community building, spirit boosting plan in which students and staff work together to make Holy Cross a better place. We use The Virtues Project as a means to bring out the best in our students. This plan, with our faith in Jesus Christ, is building an inclusive and joyful school!
All students and staff, from Kindergarten to Grade 8, have been grouped into 5 houses, with each house named after a saint. The range of students in each house builds community, familiarity, and multi-grade friendships because students are working together, depending on each other and leading others. Older students are developing leadership skills and acting as role models for our younger students.
Each month, one house leads an assembly focussing on a virtue. In the past, we’ve worked on Respect, Thankfulness, Peacefulness, and Generosity. Students implement a plan to demonstrate the virtue. Houses work together to create visible reminders of our goals as a virtue-filled faith community. Houses work together to score points through food drives and living the virtues. Walk our halls and you’ll see what we believe in!
Every month our School focuses on a different virtue. Each House chooses its activities for the month to correspond with that particular virtue.

Throughout the year, each student is able to earn House Points, which are awarded for demonstrating the Virtues that is the focus for the month. Students may also earn House Points for other reasons, such as for sportsmanship in intramurals, exemplary work in class and for being positive role models for other students. Some months, there are bonus points, that involve school-wide activities, such as most books read during Read-a-thon, or for the most canned goods brought in by a House, to name just two.
Each month, the points are tallied, and the numbers posted for all to see. At the end of the school year, the House with the most points will be awarded the House Trophy, and will have their respective House name engraved on it.
